Uniform Slate of Asphalt

Dimmed as if no brightness had ever shone a light.
Through these walls, a uniform slate of asphalt,
behind, above...for miles ahead. I walked on the coast,
on forgotten roads, fields of gravel and stones...for miles.

A melancholic veil, not bright not dark, but dull ever so dull.
How long has this been going on, is there a point in figuring these things out?
Give me a breeze I will imagine a wind, pushing and pulling me,
pushing and pulling me. Caught in a whirlwind as I move along.

I catch my breath I hold my breath, there is no time to reflect.
I catch my breath I hold my breath; I have no breath in me to reach.
